At the weekend my lovely husband treated me to an early Birthday present.  For some time now I have been itching to go on a fairy making course at the Secret Art Loft.  The venue was just outside of Stratford, and as I live in Hampshire I booked in to stay overnight in the little room above the studio.

As I drove down, relishing the rare sunshine, I was ever so slightly worried that the weekend wouldn’t live up to my high expectations.  I was also worried about creating some sort of gargoyle rather than a beautiful fairy.

Instead of not meeting expectations, the weekend far surpassed them.  Tracey Evans, who runs the courses was lovely, and her genuine enthusiasm for what she does shone through.  All the other people on the course were also good fun, and lively company.

But the fairies we created were the real stars – each and every one of us made a sculpture we were delighted with.  And each and every fairy was completely different, reflecting our individual personalities. One of the aspects of having my own art business that I really struggle with is self promotion.  Every time I post a photo of some of my work on social media I am inwardly cringing, and constantly fighting my inner critic.  With my fairy though it was a different matter.  I couldn’t wait to get home and show off my work to the world.  I love her.  Totally and absolutely love her, and plan to make many, many more – hopefully to sell via my website and at festivals.

I am well and truly bitten by the bug – and have spent this morning working on an African lady sculpture to give to my dad for his birthday present.  I have got as far as I can today, as I now need to wait for the red and orange colouring I have ordered to arrive.

After 3 weeks indoors to harden, the sculptures are weatherproof.  I only have a small garden, but am guessing it is going to get pretty crowded!!
