Take last weekend as a typical example. Friday daytime I had the pleasure of face painting tiny tots at Cobbett Road Story Time – just love how engrossed they get with the story, and how vivid their imaginations are – One little girl told me all about about the man eating dolphins who are living in a river in Southampton – always something to look out for! Then in the evening it was on to a brilliant family event organised in aid of the charity Jack’s Wishes – big thank you to Sue Reed who came along and helped with many, many glitter tattoos which were really popular. Then on Saturday – which was remarkably sunny I painted a variety of faces at a community event – the most popular one being ‘The Wrestler’ which is a new design and proved to be very popular with the boys. I also got to do some henna designs, bit thanks to Sherrill from Mimicks who trained me in this, and I just love it. Saturday night it was on to a 70s/80s disco – no excuse needed here to go wild with face paint and glitter – the 70s has to be my favourite era, any excuse to put on some platform shoes and flick my hair out Farrah style!! I think my favourite event of the weekend though has to be the Golden Goa Carnival Festival. For me, this event summed up the spirit of community. There were people of all ages, and all cultures, joining together and partying with monies raised going towards fixing a leaky church roof
. Brilliant, brilliant weekend – who wants to do a 9-5 job – when you get to do this for a living!!
